Jodhaa-Akbar
Jodhaa-Akbar-Sketch

Director : Ashutosh Gowarikar
Music : A R Rahman
Lyrics : Javed Akhtar
Starring : Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, Sonu Sood, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Suhasini Mulay, Raza Murad & Punam Sinha.

The timing of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Magnum Opus could not have been better. A love story set in the 16th century between the Mughal Emperor who ruled Hindustan (now India), Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar, and a fiery young Rajput princess, Jodhaa. With love as the backdrop, and highlighting the Hindu-Muslim marriage of alliance culminating in love and respect for one another, a day after Valentine’s Day was an apt moment for its release. Moreover, with hate politics being on the agenda, the timing of its release could not have been better. JODHAA AKBAR surely comes as a soothing balm to every Indian. If watched closely, it sends a message loud and clear that country is above everything else, even self! For our warring politicians, for this message alone, this movie is worth many trips to the multiplex.

Viewed as a love story, it portrays beautifully, the defiance of Jodhaa, the Rajput girl who is asked to marry Akbar, a Muslim Emperor. Not one to bow down or suppress her voice, Jodhaa expresses two strong wishes to the Emperor. Only if he agrees will she marry him. The first being he will not force her to change her religion and the second; he will give her a place in his palace to have a temple of her own. Both wishes are granted!

Then comes the tough task of the Emperor trying to get close to Jodhaa. Slowly, she teaches him that winning battles is not everything… he learns to win her heart as well. For lovers, this is a beautiful rendition of a perfect love story.

Ashustosh Gowariker has outdone himself. This movie is a masterpiece, a complete interpretation of what the director has visualized. From costumes, to body language, to background score, to the songs, sets, manpower and lighting… Gowariker has everything spot-on. Cinematographer Kiran Deohans captures through his wide lens the glory of the Moghul Era recreated by Nitin Desai. A R Rahman uses the beat of huge drums to transport you to another era. Pure, acoustic delight. Ravi Dewan recreates the fights that have you on the edge of your seats, while Raju Khan, Rekha Chinni Prakash and Ash Kumar combine to give you some breathtaking dances to do justice to the costumes of Neeta Lulla. The choreography of the tracks Khwaja Mere Khwaja and Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah leave you awestruck.

Now, for the performances. The perfectionist that he is, Gowariker has taken pains to pick his entire cast and each one blends with the other to transport you back to an era gone by. Even the extras have been carefully picked.

Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachahan in the lead role, contrary to beliefs, have come out looking super cool. Both actors complement each other, and both have been given the space to build their characters. I would rate this as Aishwarya’s best performance to date. This is credit to a good director who knows how to extract a performance from his actor. As for Hrithik, he soaks in the moment and one can see him completely surrender himself to Gowariker. He has worked hard on his body language and dialogue delivery. He portrays well the qualities of Akbar. He may not be the perfect Akbar, but he does enough to relive the role of the Emperor; that of a gentle and tolerant ruler with a love for his subjects who even put his life on the line to save his country. His dialogue towards the end where he subjects himself to the might of Sharifuddin Hussain for a sword fight, ’Hum Hindustan ko galat haaton mein jaate nahin dekh sakta’, draws a huge applause.

Considering the intricacies of the subject, I guess the three-hour plus length of the movie could not have been avoided.

And you know who has attended the premier show on the lovely occasion of Valentine at Imax theater in Wadala.

Guest List: Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Kiran Rao, Ronnie Screwvala, Kangna Ranaut, Rekha, Minissha Lamba, Tushar Jalota, Ashutosh Gowarikar,Sonu Sood, Ishita Arun, Akbar Khan, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Vaibhavi Merchant, Ramesh Sippy, Kiran Juneja, Sonali Bendre, Govind Nihalani, Nitin Desai, Ila Arun, Shatrughan Sinha, Poonam Sinha, Ramesh Deo, Ajinkya Deo.

Hansika Motwani was left in tears after her fellow actors taunted her that something is going between her and Aftab.

According to some Indian newspaper reports, the sexy teenager was left shedding buckets of tears on the sets of “Money Hain Tho Honey Hain”. It is believed that she was reportedly pestered and asked about the nature of relationship with her Bollywood Co-star Aftab Shivdasani as; he was repeatedly going into hansika’s room on more than one occasion. The taunting went to the extent that one of the crew member also told to her that, “ Did She Slept with Aftab?” and this sentence made the teenager so down hearted that she broke down into tears the moment she heard the comment.

Akshay Kumar Charging 20 Cr for one film now.

January 18, 08 by WeBollywood

Akshay Kymar
AkshayKumar

Akshay Kumar churned out the maximum hits last year and is now charging more that 20 crores for a film. However ,trade analysts feel despite his achievements and consistency, Akshay is far behind Shah Rukh Khan ,but is still down to earth person still and is unperturbed by his success graph . Akhi feels that he has much more to conquer still and is hoping more hits this year.

But Akshay is not competing with the Khans or Amitacbh Bachchan any longer. After the success of “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” ,trade pundits are comparing him with the south Indian Superstar Rajnikanth . Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s script has been inspired from Rajni’s Chandramukhi released in 2005.

Rajni’s Shivaji- The boss has collected 15 crore’s and is said that Rajnikanth is charging 16 crores /film, post the success of Sivaji.

Similarly, After giving four hits in row –“ Heyy Babyy” ,”Namaste London” and “Bhool Bhuliaya” and “Welcome”, Akshay has hiked his price and signed the next film by Venus Records for 22 crore.

Akhi with his consistency has earned a Title called Hindi Film Hit Machine.

If last year was dedicated to comedies, 2008 will see him going back to his original genre-ACTION.

In Nikhil’s Advani’ new action –Adventure –comedy,”Chandni Chowk to China” which also happens to depict his Akhi’s life story, akhi will be seen in his Edge Of the sEat Stunts. The actor who was out of practice for more than 7 years ,trained in a form of Martial arts known as Wushu for film. the movie will cost Rs.100 crore and that makes it one of the costliest Hindi films so far.

So, let’s hope that our Akhi will maintain his success streak in 2008 and will also be a down to earth person inspite of his growing career and finance.

Govinda in trouble - Case filed against him for slapping someone in public.

Govinda Money Hai Tho Honey Hai

The first-time MP was caught on tape slapping Rai while he was visiting the set where the actor was shooting for his film Money Hai to Honey Hai.

Govinda had accused Rai of misbehaving with artistes including women. He said Rai was even kicking the legs of the chair on which the actor was sitting.

Santosh Rai filed the non-cognisable complaint under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC at the Goregaon police station against the Congress MP, deputy commissioner of police (Zone XI) Makrand Ranade said.

The Bollywood actor, known for his comic roles, remained unrepentant on Friday also saying he wouldn’t hesitate to slap the individual again if he appeared before him. "There is no question of apologising to him," Govinda told reporters. He claimed that Rai’s decision to lodge a complaint was politically motivated.

In 2004, Govinda made his electoral debut and beat four-time BJP MP and former Union minister Ram Naik but has since kept a low political profile, and has been finding time to revive his Bollywood career. The MP has been under fire for not visiting his Lok Sabha constituency for a long time.
