If all goes well, Hrithik Roshan and Penelope Cruz will come together for a Bollywood movie. Reports say Hrithik may star opposite the hot Spanish sensation in his forthcoming home production. The film, to be directed by Anurag Basu, required a beautiful international face and Hrithik felt Penelope would fit the bill perfectly.

According to sources, Rakesh Roshan got in touch with Penelope in Los Angeles to discuss the same. The production is set to be an action-packed romance. Here’s more on the hot cast in the making.

The timing of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Magnum Opus could not have been better. A love story set in the 16th century between the Mughal Emperor who ruled Hindustan (now India), Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar, and a fiery young Rajput princess, Jodhaa. With love as the backdrop, and highlighting the Hindu-Muslim marriage of alliance culminating in love and respect for one another, a day after Valentine’s Day was an apt moment for its release. Moreover, with hate politics being on the agenda, the timing of its release could not have been better. JODHAA AKBAR surely comes as a soothing balm to every Indian. If watched closely, it sends a message loud and clear that country is above everything else, even self! For our warring politicians, for this message alone, this movie is worth many trips to the multiplex.

Viewed as a love story, it portrays beautifully, the defiance of Jodhaa, the Rajput girl who is asked to marry Akbar, a Muslim Emperor. Not one to bow down or suppress her voice, Jodhaa expresses two strong wishes to the Emperor. Only if he agrees will she marry him. The first being he will not force her to change her religion and the second; he will give her a place in his palace to have a temple of her own. Both wishes are granted!

Then comes the tough task of the Emperor trying to get close to Jodhaa. Slowly, she teaches him that winning battles is not everything… he learns to win her heart as well. For lovers, this is a beautiful rendition of a perfect love story.

Ashustosh Gowariker has outdone himself. This movie is a masterpiece, a complete interpretation of what the director has visualized. From costumes, to body language, to background score, to the songs, sets, manpower and lighting… Gowariker has everything spot-on. Cinematographer Kiran Deohans captures through his wide lens the glory of the Moghul Era recreated by Nitin Desai. A R Rahman uses the beat of huge drums to transport you to another era. Pure, acoustic delight. Ravi Dewan recreates the fights that have you on the edge of your seats, while Raju Khan, Rekha Chinni Prakash and Ash Kumar combine to give you some breathtaking dances to do justice to the costumes of Neeta Lulla. The choreography of the tracks Khwaja Mere Khwaja and Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah leave you awestruck.

Now, for the performances. The perfectionist that he is, Gowariker has taken pains to pick his entire cast and each one blends with the other to transport you back to an era gone by. Even the extras have been carefully picked.

Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachahan in the lead role, contrary to beliefs, have come out looking super cool. Both actors complement each other, and both have been given the space to build their characters. I would rate this as Aishwarya’s best performance to date. This is credit to a good director who knows how to extract a performance from his actor. As for Hrithik, he soaks in the moment and one can see him completely surrender himself to Gowariker. He has worked hard on his body language and dialogue delivery. He portrays well the qualities of Akbar. He may not be the perfect Akbar, but he does enough to relive the role of the Emperor; that of a gentle and tolerant ruler with a love for his subjects who even put his life on the line to save his country. His dialogue towards the end where he subjects himself to the might of Sharifuddin Hussain for a sword fight, ’Hum Hindustan ko galat haaton mein jaate nahin dekh sakta’, draws a huge applause.

Considering the intricacies of the subject, I guess the three-hour plus length of the movie could not have been avoided.

And you know who has attended the premier show on the lovely occasion of Valentine at Imax theater in Wadala.

Jodhaa - Akbar

If rumors are to be believed, Anil Ambani’s Reliance is buying Jodhaa Akbar for Rs 90 cr from UTV. Reliance is planning to distribute the film, which has been delayed for the longest time.

Though no one is ready to confirm the development, trade circles are buzzing with this news. Insiders are even going to the extent of saying that the deal has already been inked. And it seems like UTV is heaving a sigh of relief, as the film is not carrying favourable reports within the trade circuit.

As for Reliance, it is said that they have been meaning to make a foray into Bollywood for a long time now. And Jodhaa Akbar, with its impressive star cast looks like a perfect film to start with.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Jodhaa Akbar is set to release on February 15 and stars Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai and Sonu Sood among others..

Yesteryear actors Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia hope to revive their sizzling chemistry of yore in Zoya Akhtar’s first film.

They once used to be a hot jodi. Rishi and Dimple gave a new definition to onscreen love in their teenage romance flick Bobby in 1973. Later, they came together for Ramesh Sippy’s love triangle ‘Saagar’. Their recent pairing in Hriday Shetty’s movie Pyaar Mein Twist went without much notice.

But now, Rishi and Dimple are teaming up again to revive their onscreen magic.

The duo has been signed to play important roles in Zoya Akhtar’s film Luck By Chance , which takes a tongue-in-cheek.look at the Hindi film industry.

The film has Zoya’s brother Farhan Akhtar playing the male lead opposite Konkona Sen Sharma . Hrithik Roshan will make a guest appearance.

The movie’s shooting is set to begin in March this year. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani.

Aditya Chopra

Aditya Chopra is all set to direct his third directorial venture. Aditya, who had earlier directed the super hit films, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Mohabbatein intends to pull of a casting coup of sorts with his third one.

If reports are to be believed, the film will have Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta in the lead. The film will have a romantic backdrop with a hint of action, comedy and drama to it. Currently Aditya is working on the screenplay of this new project. Also, sources say that this mega budget film will be shot in locations like Switzerland, Greece, Australia and Dubai.

Well, seems like, with a stellar star cast, mega budget, beautiful locations and a successful director, this film is bound to be the next blockbuster from Yash Raj.

Zayed-Khan

Yes this are the words of Zayed Khan the Bollywood superstar, who is on cloud nine now.

His wife Malaika Khan gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on Friday.

The baby arrived two weeks earlier than expected at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on the morning of January 18. Zayed, his sister Farah, and Malaika’s mother were at the hospital at the time of birth. It was a normal delivery.

Both the baby and mom are in good condition. The baby has a very fair complexion and big eyes. He weighs around 6.1 pounds.

Zayed and Malaika have named the baby Zidaan. It was a name Zayed had pre-decided because he wanted a name beginning with letter ‘z’.

Soon there will be celebrations at the Khan household. Zayed’s father Sanjay Khan and mother Zarine Khan were so far nana nani to six grandchildren from their three daughters – Farah, Simone and Suzanne (married to Hrithik Roshan ). With the coming of Zidaan, Sanjay and Zarine have now become dada dadi as well.

Zayed Khan says he is on top of the world since the birth of Zidaan. He says the baby has the facial features of both Malaika and him..

London, Jan 15 (IANS) Surrounded by fans, Bollywood actor Salman Khan unveiled his wax figure at Madame Tussauds here Tuesday.

Salman beat nine other Indian mega stars - including Madhuri Dixit, Hrithik Roshan, Lata Mangeshkar and Abhishek Bachchan, to win a place at the world famous waxworks museum after a public poll conducted last summer.

Salman’s statue stands in a special Bollywood section alongside those of three other Mumbai greats - Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan.

The museum hopes the installation of the new statue, reflecting Salman’s popularity in the West, will attract many more South Asian and British Asian visitors.

The heartthrob actor was measured and photographed by expert sculptors in Mumbai last October to kick-start painstaking work on his wax double. He personally chose and donated clothes for the figure to wear.

Salman, who has starred in over 55 films since his 1988 debut film "Biwi Ho To Aisi" made it to the central London attraction after beating off competition from Madhuri Dixit, Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukerji, Karan Johar, Kajol, Lata Mangeshkar, Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and John Abraham.

More than 10,000 people voted in the poll to choose the "Next Bollywood Star" conducted last August.

Ben Lovett of Madame Tussauds said recently: "The Asian market is critical to our attraction and our association with Bollywood, particularly the launch of Shah Rukh Khan, has seen a dramatic increase in the number of Asians, from both the UK and abroad, visiting and enjoying Madame Tussauds. We hope to build upon this exciting relationship with the unveiling of Salman.
