This one is a little hard to digest, but rumors are that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan may not be part of Rajnikanth and Shankar’s Robot. The reason for this is that P. Vasu, director of Rajnikant’s mega-hit Chandramukhi is going through bad phase and Rajnikant has decided to bail him out.

Rajnikant will be starting a quickie for Vasu and has allotted the dates of Robot to him, which means Robot has been pushed from May to September. This leaves Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a dicey situation, as she is part of Bachchan’s world tour, which will take place at that time.

The timing of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Magnum Opus could not have been better. A love story set in the 16th century between the Mughal Emperor who ruled Hindustan (now India), Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar, and a fiery young Rajput princess, Jodhaa. With love as the backdrop, and highlighting the Hindu-Muslim marriage of alliance culminating in love and respect for one another, a day after Valentine’s Day was an apt moment for its release. Moreover, with hate politics being on the agenda, the timing of its release could not have been better. JODHAA AKBAR surely comes as a soothing balm to every Indian. If watched closely, it sends a message loud and clear that country is above everything else, even self! For our warring politicians, for this message alone, this movie is worth many trips to the multiplex.

Viewed as a love story, it portrays beautifully, the defiance of Jodhaa, the Rajput girl who is asked to marry Akbar, a Muslim Emperor. Not one to bow down or suppress her voice, Jodhaa expresses two strong wishes to the Emperor. Only if he agrees will she marry him. The first being he will not force her to change her religion and the second; he will give her a place in his palace to have a temple of her own. Both wishes are granted!

Then comes the tough task of the Emperor trying to get close to Jodhaa. Slowly, she teaches him that winning battles is not everything… he learns to win her heart as well. For lovers, this is a beautiful rendition of a perfect love story.

Ashustosh Gowariker has outdone himself. This movie is a masterpiece, a complete interpretation of what the director has visualized. From costumes, to body language, to background score, to the songs, sets, manpower and lighting… Gowariker has everything spot-on. Cinematographer Kiran Deohans captures through his wide lens the glory of the Moghul Era recreated by Nitin Desai. A R Rahman uses the beat of huge drums to transport you to another era. Pure, acoustic delight. Ravi Dewan recreates the fights that have you on the edge of your seats, while Raju Khan, Rekha Chinni Prakash and Ash Kumar combine to give you some breathtaking dances to do justice to the costumes of Neeta Lulla. The choreography of the tracks Khwaja Mere Khwaja and Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah leave you awestruck.

Now, for the performances. The perfectionist that he is, Gowariker has taken pains to pick his entire cast and each one blends with the other to transport you back to an era gone by. Even the extras have been carefully picked.

Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachahan in the lead role, contrary to beliefs, have come out looking super cool. Both actors complement each other, and both have been given the space to build their characters. I would rate this as Aishwarya’s best performance to date. This is credit to a good director who knows how to extract a performance from his actor. As for Hrithik, he soaks in the moment and one can see him completely surrender himself to Gowariker. He has worked hard on his body language and dialogue delivery. He portrays well the qualities of Akbar. He may not be the perfect Akbar, but he does enough to relive the role of the Emperor; that of a gentle and tolerant ruler with a love for his subjects who even put his life on the line to save his country. His dialogue towards the end where he subjects himself to the might of Sharifuddin Hussain for a sword fight, ’Hum Hindustan ko galat haaton mein jaate nahin dekh sakta’, draws a huge applause.

Considering the intricacies of the subject, I guess the three-hour plus length of the movie could not have been avoided.

And you know who has attended the premier show on the lovely occasion of Valentine at Imax theater in Wadala.

Bipasha - Race

Bipasha Basu loves experimenting with her hair and looks. This time the sultry bong beauty has come up with a stunning short bob in copper and reddish tones. Absolutely chic and classy, her first public appearance with the new hair do was at the MTV Hero Honda Roadies – Race event at Grand Hyatt, Santacruz, in Mumbai which really made heads turn. Accompanying the lady was Chhote Nawab Saif Ali Khan.

When Bips had a two hour session with her hair stylist Sapna Bhavnani, she ended up with a conventional bob. The actress apparently wasn’t satisfied with the look when she brooded over it after going home. So Bipasha was back for another two-hour session with Sapna the next day. This time the actress decided to completely hand over the reins to Sapna. The outcome – a trendy, classic bob – as Sapna describes it.

“Bipasha is one of those few people in Bollywood who love to experiment with their hair”, says Sapna Bhavnani. “Also, what works in her favour is the fact that her hair is luscious, thick and silky. Her attitude for style is unlike most of the other actresses who prefer to play safe with long hair. I am hopeful that Bipasha’s bob will become a rage among fans in the coming season.”

Nagesh Kuknoor

Though much is being talked about Nagesh Kukunoor’s EIGHT BY TEN (earlier titled TASVEER) due to Akshay Kumar factor, not many are aware that the film maker has also wrapped up a film starring John Abraham in the lead. Titled AASHAYEIN, the film is a Percept Picture Company film and also stars Shreyas Talpade, a regular with Kukunoor, in a special appearance.

AASHAYEIN is the story of a compulsive gambler (played by John Abraham) who discovers new meanings of fortune and life through some dramatic turn of events. The film is aiming for a release this summer. This would also be John’s next release after his moderately successful DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL which came towards the fag end of last year.

Meanwhile John would soon be starting to shoot for Sriram Raghavan’s next film which stars Aishwarya Rai as the female lead.

Race-Saif Bipasha

RACE has already been voted as the No 1. Hottest film to look forward to in cyberspace.

In a recent poll on which movie’s popularity is decided based on the surfing patterns of millions of users, RACE was voted as No 1. film as it eclipsed other high profile forthcoming films. The ranking determines the popularity of movies, indicating a high level of public awareness and interest in that film.

RACE, produced by Ramesh Taurani (TIPS films) and directed by master of the thriller genre Abbas-Mustan, is touted as one of the slickest thrillers in Bollywood. The promos, which have an international feel, have already created quite a buzz in the industry.

Boasting of the star cast comprising of Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy, RACE is slated to release in March 2008.

Remember About the Previous Post: Aishwarya or Deepika for the Shankar’s much hyped project ROBOT..

So the final winner is one and only one Aishwarya Rai, read this –>

Aishwarya Rai has reportedly signed the prestigious Shankar film with Rajinikanth, tentatively called Robot.

Our sources insist, the deal was officially signed yesterday afternoon, around 3.30 pm. “The contract was sent to Janak (the Bachchan bungalow in suburban Mumbai) for the Bachchans’ approval, and it was duly signed,” says our source. But that’s not all. Aishwarya Rai is allegedly charging a whopping
Rs 1.5 cr for the film, which was initially meant to be a SRK and Deepika Padukone starrer. The amount, needless to say, will be some sort of a landmark, considering no Rajini heroine has ever commanded such an astronomical fee so far. Shriya Saran was allegedly paid Rs 30 lakh for Sivaji.

Meanwhile, there seems to be some controversy around the title of this film.

Well, we all know the deal with tax exemption on movies with Tamil titles. So if you were wondering if Shankar was going to stick with Robot and incur the extra expense, you were wrong. The director has announced that Robot will soon be given a different name – a Tamil name at that. Since the movie is budgeted at Rs 120 crores, it makes absolute sense to cut these extra costs.

Shankar has also mentioned that this movie of his, being a sci-fi adventure, will depend largely on the visual effects, which may require a lot of time. But for Rajini fans, time won’t be an issue because Kuselan will be out later this year to keep them well entertained.

Shooting for Kuselan will start in February and the movie will hit screens post-June. Shooting for Robot will commence in July and the movie will hit the theatres, Well, let’s wait and watch.
