If all goes well, Hrithik Roshan and Penelope Cruz will come together for a Bollywood movie. Reports say Hrithik may star opposite the hot Spanish sensation in his forthcoming home production. The film, to be directed by Anurag Basu, required a beautiful international face and Hrithik felt Penelope would fit the bill perfectly.

Super Star – Kunal

An actor enacting dual roles isn’t new for bollywood. Dilip Kumar- Ram Aur Shyam, Rajesh Khanna –Sachajhootha and Amitabh’s –Satte Pe Satta are all examples of this dual role characters.

Kunal ( Kunal Kheemu) defines the youth of today. He dares to dream of making it big in he bollywood one day.

Kunal wears the tag of a bollywood struggler lightly, as he knows it is only a matter of time before he makes it into the big league. Until, that is, life decides to play a prank on him. The entry of the rich, debonair Karan ( Kheemu) in a dual role, in bollywood as well as his life ,crushes all of kunal’s dreams.

And suddenly the struggler is transformed into a superstar. Public adulation and unwavering media attention, he receives it all. But the truth is something else…..

This film looks normal when the story is read, but the taking of the film is very well carved. A story like the one in SUPERSTAR cannot do without a solid actor and Kunal Kheemu handles the various shades with aplomb. in fact , his performance is the mainstay of the enterprise and he has the talent to hold the scene without making the audience feel restless.

Super Star

This is the second film of Kunal as a hero and may be a 14th film as n artist as he was a child actor previously who used to appear in child artist characters in various films and teleserials. This helped him to change into a full fledged actor and his toned body makes him apt for the character in this film.

Keeping aside the performances of the artist in this movie, the screenplay and the story ahs some loopholes in between. Take for instance the bonding that develops between the star and the struggler. How do they become thick friends in the first place? Also, why doesn’t the investigating Journo (Zafar) telecast the truth, when he has already planted the hidden cameras in Darshan Jariwala’s House? Prior to this Darshan passes the MMS clippings to a private channel.

The writers as well as the director need to take few lessons in screenplay writing for sure!

Kunal is the lifeline of the show. His performance leaves the audience speechless as he gets into the skin of his dual characters.

Tulip as nothing much to do then show her skin in some sequences. Aushima Shwhney looks mature for Kunal. Darshan is perfect and Sharat saxena leaves his won mark in the film. Especially in the scene when kunal comes visiting after a gruesome incident.
On the whole, SUPERSTAR is a strictly average fare. But the collections will surely be dull and may get back the investments. At the most the film will run for two –three weeks.

Taare Zameen Par was not only Aamir Khan’s directorial debut, it was also the debut of clay-animation in Bollywood.

After dazzling the advertising world, clay animation has found its way to Bollywood as well.

Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par was also Bollywood’s first attempt at using claymation, clay-animation or animation created using clay. Animation Film Designer Dhimant Vyas who worked on the title sequence of Taare Zameen Par , gave way to his imagination even as he identified with Ishaan’s character. Giving shape to clay and giving them an almost life like state is Vyas’s forte and that’s exactly why Aamir Khan took notice of claymation.

"Aamir wanted me to use animals for the imagination sequence and not humans," says Dhimant Vyas.

Dhimant, a graduate from the National Institute of Design, heaves a sigh of relief as Bollywood is finally opening its doors to the world of animation, even as India continues to be a front-runner for outsourcing for major animation studios in Hollywood.

"Its nice that Bollywood is opening up to animation," says Dhimant.

Bollywood actors are spending most of their money on taxes.

It is because of them that so much of money is going into our treasury and that is really good for us too, But wonder if the government is making good use of it.

Although few of us had not even paid tax till now..

Now this one would go down as one of the most shocking comebacks of not just the current year but for a much longer time period. Imagine a top actress from the past returning to celluloid after a hiatus and let aside any hype or hoopla, there is not enough the slightest hint of awareness created amongst the audience. To top it, the film even has the actress playing the central protagonist in the title role but surprisingly there is zilch buzz around the project.

Well, the film in question is Tulsi – Mathru Devo Bhava, the release day is this Friday i.e. 18th January and the actress is, hold your breath, none other than Manisha Koirala.

Yes, that’s right. 3 years after she was last seen as a lead actress in Mumbai Express (2005), Manisha Koirala is returning as a leading lady in Tulsi – Mathru Devo Bhava sans any fanfare. In between she was seen as a supporting actress in films like Taj Mahal – An Eternal Love Story (2005), Anjaane – The Unknown (2005), Darwaza Bandh Rakho (2006) and Anwar (2007) but each of them met with a disastrous fate at the box office.

Now even as she returns with Tulsi – Mathru Devo Bhava this Friday, there are as good as minimal chances for the film to fare any better since as it is clearly suffering from poor marketing, patchy promotion and haphazard release. What a pity because the film has none other than Irrfan Khan as Manisha’s on-screen husband.

Surprisingly, no one associated with the project seems to be showing any inclination towards making audience aware about the film. Neither of the two actors has spoken a word about the film so far whereas the quality of promos also lacks the kind of finesse which could attract audience towards the theaters.

Also, if one tries to read between the lines, it is quite apparent that Manisha has been totally sidelined from the film’s publicity. Promos which are currently on air at a select few satellite channels have Irrfan Khan in focus with Manisha conspicuous by her absence. Ironical, since it is Manisha who is supposed to be the central protagonist of the film while playing the title role.

Many moons ago when the film’s shooting was completed, Irrfan had declared, “It is a highly emotional film, something which will hit you in your face. I like working in such movies, which have a strong script." He was also mighty impressed by Manisha and commented that he had become a big fan of hers after seeing her act. Calling her a natural actress, he also complimented her for being a fabulous human being.

However, currently it is a sad situation for producer C H Padmavathi and director K. Ajayakumar who have set

Tulsi – Mathru Devo Bhava as the remake of 1993 Telugu hit Mathru Devo Bhava. Incidentally, K. Ajayakumar was the director of the original version as well. Madhavi had bagged a National Award for the role which is being played by Manisha in the remake.

The film also features yesteryear actor Vikram (Julie, Swami) who plays the character of a man who runs an ’ashram’ which takes care of orphans. Says Vikram, "The film revolves around three characters – Manisha Koirala, Irrfan Khan and myself. It is a very hard-hitting subject."

Coming back to Manisha, she would be seen in yet another delayed project, God Tussi Great Ho, later this year. Hope she is more visible once this Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra starrer film gets ready for release.

Bollywood’s sexy siren, Mallika Sherawat makes an appearance in Star Plus’ latest game show, Kahoo Na Yaar Hai. Watch Mallika as she responds to brain teasers in Friday’s episode of the show, which has Sonu Nigam as her competitor.

In a question-answer round, the actress was asked wacky questions like the time taken for three eggs to boil and if one egg took three minutes, to which she reportedly replied nine!

Supporting Mallika were Rongita Pritish Nandy and designer Anita Dongre. When asked who among the three ladies would ’volunteer’ to be Sonu Nigam’s sister, all three replied, ’Mallika’!

London, Jan 15 (IANS) Surrounded by fans, Bollywood actor Salman Khan unveiled his wax figure at Madame Tussauds here Tuesday.

Salman beat nine other Indian mega stars – including Madhuri Dixit, Hrithik Roshan, Lata Mangeshkar and Abhishek Bachchan, to win a place at the world famous waxworks museum after a public poll conducted last summer.

Salman’s statue stands in a special Bollywood section alongside those of three other Mumbai greats – Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan.

The museum hopes the installation of the new statue, reflecting Salman’s popularity in the West, will attract many more South Asian and British Asian visitors.

The heartthrob actor was measured and photographed by expert sculptors in Mumbai last October to kick-start painstaking work on his wax double. He personally chose and donated clothes for the figure to wear.

Salman, who has starred in over 55 films since his 1988 debut film "Biwi Ho To Aisi" made it to the central London attraction after beating off competition from Madhuri Dixit, Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukerji, Karan Johar, Kajol, Lata Mangeshkar, Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and John Abraham.

More than 10,000 people voted in the poll to choose the "Next Bollywood Star" conducted last August.

Ben Lovett of Madame Tussauds said recently: "The Asian market is critical to our attraction and our association with Bollywood, particularly the launch of Shah Rukh Khan, has seen a dramatic increase in the number of Asians, from both the UK and abroad, visiting and enjoying Madame Tussauds. We hope to build upon this exciting relationship with the unveiling of Salman.
