After his break-up with Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapur has immersed himself in his professional commitments. He has already begun shooting for Aziz Mirza’s Kismet Connection and given several powerhouse performances at award shows. Nevertheless, his love life post Kareena has been a topic of much speculation.

So far, he has been romantically linked with Sania Mirza, Vidya Balan and Amrita Rao. Of course, Shahid has denied all of these link-ups. In fact, the actor stated that as he has just emerged from a four-year relationship, he is trying to look positively on his life. He even admitted to being very sad for the few last months, but realises it is best to look to the future rather than the past.Professionally, Shahid is on the upswing.

He has delivered two blockbuster films in the last two years: Vivah in 2006 with Amrita Rao and Jab We Met in 2007 with Kareena. Now, the Bollywood heartthrob has several more in the pipeline. Besides Kismet Connection with Vidya Balan and Milenge Milenge with Kareena, both released this year, he is expected to star in his father Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial debut.Shahid’s career is undoubtedly on the fast-track, but we’ll just have to wait and see which lady will capture his heart..

Hallo Bol Gets Mixed Response At The Box Office

January 18, 08 by WeBollywood

Halla Bol

Rajkumar Santoshi’s political commentary Halla Bol has received a mixed response in its opening week. While the audiences in the western circuit have rejected the movie, it is doing reasonably well in some pockets in north India.

Box office collections in Mumbai started dropping from the second show of its opening day last Friday (Jan 11). The movie notched a lacklustre Mumbai territory opening with 70 percent collections, considered unusual for an Ajay Devgan starrer.

Halla Bol2

Bollywood trade circles were taken by surprise when the collections in cinemas in Mumbai dropped to as low as 42 percent after the opening day.

The box office graph tilted downwards in all major suburban circuits.

The verdict is now clear. Though appreciated critically, Halla Bol is the first debacle of 2008.

But the movie has been doing reasonably well in some pockets in north India. A leading Mumbai distributor attributes this moderate success to the political culture of the north.

“It was expected. The political undertone explicit in the movie is akin to the political culture of the North. Cine-goers in the north generally like movies that have a fair amount of action. ’Haala Bol’ has it in ample measure. The action scenes in the movie, as in all Raj Kumar Santoshi movies, are nicely executed to boost the narration. Maybe, audience in other centres squirmed at the movie’s political content,” a leading Mumbai distributor, not wishing to be named.

Halla Bol4

A group of young girls who watched the movie at the Fame-Andheri in Mumbai summed up the mood of the audience when they told that in Halla Bol, director Rajkumar Santoshi assumed the role of a teacher, telling them what they should do and what they should not.

“Come on, we do not like to be talked to in such a silly manner,” said Sangita Sajlani, the most vociferous among them.

Halla Bol5

The debacle of Halla Bol is also a major setback to Pyramid Symira. It was the theatre chain’s first foray into the Hindi belt. It is too shell-shocked to comment on the film’s poor show all over.

Though reports from overseas market are yet to be made public, trade circles believe that the movie may not fare well there either.

The verdict that the movie has received in the domestic market has set the overseas distributors wondering whether the NRI audience will be able to identify themselves with the Indian social milieu into which the issue has been woven.

Shahid Kapoor On Life After Kareena Kapoor

ShahidKapoorAndKareenKapoor

Finally it seems that you have made it to the big league. I believe you are working with Yashraj Films.

Yes, I am doing a film with Adi and Yashji. It’s a privilege that they have considered me to be a part of their forthcoming project. I am not in a position to talk any further about the project, and would prefer the production house to reveal the details.

People consider themselves lucky getting to work with Yashraj Films. Do you feel that you have finally arrived?

Oh yes. Working with an established production house always gives you an added advantage. They are extremely professional and they have been around this industry for so many decades that they know precisely what a star requires in terms of costume, script and promotion.

Immediately after the break up, you have been linked with many actresses. It started with Vidya Balan…

ShahidKapoorAndVidyaBalan

I have been reading about my own affairs. You know for a fact I will never deny a relationship. I think it is something one should be proud of. A relationship is a support structure, which helps you grow as a person. Vidya is a fantastic actor and we had a great time shooting for Aziz Mirza’s film Kismet Connection.

An eyewitness from J W Marriot says that he saw you fetching Vidya from the Halla Bol press conference and going back to Versova. What was that?

Please do me a favour, get me the name and the number of that eyewitness so that I can also talk to him and find out exactly whom he saw. I was not there and she was certainly not in my car. Neither did she come to my house. So what is this story, which is doing the rounds?

It was reported that you wanted to give Kareena a surprise visit on her birthday, but when you realized that she has not invited you and invited Saif for the birthday bash you kept yourself away from the party?

Well… enough has been written and talked about. Do you have anything else to ask? (Gives a fed up look)

Now that you are single and probably the only eligible bachelor in this industry, how does life look like?

Now, I am just concentrating only on my career. I have signed a couple of interesting projects and this year, I think I will be able to deliver some out-of-the-box stuff.

You are doing a dance film with Ken Ghosh?

Yes… I am very excited about the film. I just love dancing and that’s the reason why I am working on my look for the film. But few people know even Ken is a very good dancer and I think we’ll make a fabulous team. I know that people in India have seen all kinds of dances, but that’s where our challenge lies. We need to give them something really out of this world.

Your films with Kareena didn’t do well at the box-office before. But after Jab We Met producers are interested in casting you together. But now, you and Kareena have moved on in your personal life. Do you think this personal loss as professional loss too?

What makes you think that Kareena would not work with me? I mean if we have a script that requires both of us, then we are professional enough to act in the film. It’s true that when we were seeing each other, none of our films worked at the box-office and Jab We Met happened when we decided to part ways. No one expected the film would turn out to be a smash hit.
